The SMS Mite 1 and 2 teams were ousted from the NorthStar Youth Hockey League (NSYHL) playoffs last weekend. The NSYHL is located at NorthStar Ice Sports Arena in Westborough MA. The NSYHL uses a double-elimination format in their playoffs. Both mite teams played a hybrid season beginning with half-ice games from September to December and moving to full ice games in January. The mite 1 team finished the season in 3rd place and won 2 but lost 2 while the mite 2 team finished in 7th place and won 1 and lost 2.  Each player demonstrated outstanding improvement as well as a growing passion for the game. SMS Hockey invited a special guest to run a Mite American Development Model (ADM) session and talk to parents of players enrolled in SMS Little Devils Learn to Play Hockey program about USA Hockey's approach to long term athletic development and growing the game of hockey. Roger Grillo, New England Regional Manager, was in charge of the mite C morning session and 25 players enjoyed a 4 station practice with SMS coaches, led by Coach Grillo. Following the mite session, the 40+ player Little Devils session was run by 7 veteran SMS coaches and 6 high school players while our new SMS Little Devils coaches and parents listened to Roger talk about USA Hockey's ADM model which is followed by the SMSH program. Thanks Roger and to all the parents, volunteers and players for a great morning of youth hockey.

SMS Peewee C wins Perini Tournament!

Congratulations to all of the Peewee C team for an impressive Championship Win at the Perini Tournament!!! It is not only about the win, but how hard the kids played every shift, every minute with great determination and vigor (win is just a by-product, while performance is a measurement of success in my opinion).  Most importantly I am most proud to see the boys compete with tremendous sportsmanship on and off the ice.  The games played between all teams including Outlaws, Newton and Framingham were certainly hard fought, clean (saw good sportsmanship from all teams) and competitive, which made this tournament that much more fun and exciting.  Thank you to all of the parents for your support.

New hockey store opens in Acton...

"We have great news for the local hockey community.  There is a new hockey (lacrosse & field hockey) store just near the Concord Rotary.

Hit the Net Sports just opened in Acton at 141 Great Road (Route 2A/119).  The store should be a great additional local resource for our SMS youth hockey families.  It carries specialized hockey equipment that has been lacking in the surrounding area for some time, including companies like Bauer, CCM and Easton, as well as apparel from Under Armour and Nike. It also carries all the accessories such as mouthguards, laces, hockey goals, tape, shooting pads, mini sticks, etc.

They do skate sharpening and skate repair and importantly for working parents, are open most nights until 8 PM to accommodate everyone’s busy schedule.  They also have a shooting cage so you can actually try shooting with a stick you are interested in before you buy it.

SPECIAL OFFER
For all SMS families Hit the Net Sports is offering right now:
* $4 skate sharpening until Oct 15th
* 10% off any Bauer Supreme skates until Oct 15th

Please feel free to check out the store.  To learn more, see the links below:
